FD 27 Direct Your Football Club Getting Started in FD 27
The first hour in the office, before you sign anyone famous.
FD 27: Direct Your Football Club opens with a question most football games never ask: which chair do you want, and how much rope will you give yourself. You are not booking a friendly. You are buying a company that happens to play football on Saturdays. The Early Access v0.1 build already contains the loop that matters: departments, wages, sponsors, facilities, and a match engine that reports on work you finished weeks ago.
This page is the on-ramp. Pair it with how to play as owner if you still reach for a tactics screen, and with how to pick a club before you spend the purchase budget.
Setup screens that are easy to click through
Experience mode lets you acquire clubs more freely. Campaign mode removes the budget used to buy a club, which immediately shrinks the menu. Difficulty also gates which chairs you can sit in, so the “easy giant” and the “hard League Two side” are not the same sandbox. Read the extra info window on tutorials, responsibilities and autosave. Responsibilities are applied inside the save. If you tick them as flavour text, you will later wonder why a department never asks you anything.
You get three save slots: one live game and two dated copies from the previous month. Treat the dated copies as a net, not a museum. A bad shirt deal or a star wage can poison a season in ways the next window cannot unwind.
Keyboard shortcuts were added before v0.1, tables highlight on hover, and you can type on screens without opening a controller keyboard overlay. Those details live on the controls page. They sound small. They are the difference between enjoying the calendar and fighting it.
The first week is hiring, not shopping
New owners open the transfer list. Resist it. Open staff instead. The staff hire order is medical, then sporting director, then marketing, then finance in a small division. A cheap medical department does not hurt in August. It hurts in February, when knocks stack and the bench is a teenager and a full-back playing nine.
Your sporting director changes which names appear as realistic targets. That is visible, so it is fixable later. Medical is delayed, so it is not. How to hire staff walks attributes, salaries and the youth-coach lock behind the academy building.
Money you can see, money you cannot
Look at shirt, sleeve, shorts and stadium before you promise a striker. How to get sponsors explains why the first shirt offer is almost never the club’s real value. Ticket prices, food, drink and merchandising also sit on the same board. A first-look video of the office loop is embedded below; watch how quickly sponsorship and ticketing eat the hour if you let them.
Loans exist. A loan that finishes a training ground in League One can be rational. A loan that buys a peak striker follows the wage bill for years. How to manage finances covers television, merchandising rebalance for weaker divisions, and assembly fines that now forecast in the yearly balance so June is not a surprise.
What “starting well” looks like after ninety minutes
You will simulate days. That is allowed. Match speed can be normal, x2 or x4. The engine still counts fatigue, morale, knocks and three substitution windows. If the team dies after minute seventy-five every week, the problem is the training ground and fitness staff, not the missing number nine. Match day is the diagnostic manual.
Do not build the museum first. The facilities guide is blunt about comfort buildings. Do not ignore club vision because it looks like flavour; it is the spine that stops a January panic buy.
When the first window opens, read how to negotiate transfers. Incoming bids now have a full counter-offer screen. Wage resistance is lower than in early demo builds, but a player clearly above your squad average still prices like it. You get the right to talk, not the right to steal.
Finish the hour with the first season walkthrough or the checklist tool. If the database or sim speed feels sticky, skim patch notes: Syra has already rewritten day processing once after community complaints.
You do not need a perfect first save. You need a save where cause and effect remain visible. That is the whole point of starting in a chair that can still go broke.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for the boardroom questions owners actually search.
Should I start in the Premier League?
Not for a first save. A big budget hides errors. League One or Segunda makes medical, wages and depth readable. See club picks.
How many save slots are there?
Three: one current and two monthly backups. Use them before a reckless signing, not after.
The demo felt slow. Is v0.1 better?
Day processing was rewritten after feedback, with a large claimed speed gain. Hardware still matters. Check system requirements.
Where is the formation screen?
There is not one for you. The coach owns that. If the Best XI looks wrong after a release, that was a known bug and later patched. Read how to play.
